The Western New York Book Arts Center (WNYBAC) presents White. Lines. Matter. an exhibition by Edreys Wajed, on view from February 3rd through March 10th, 2017. An opening reception to celebrate the exhibition will be held on Friday, February 3rd from 6-9pm.
“White. Lines. Matter. An Exploration of process in transforming flatness, absence and void in to substance and shape. Grounding white loftiness with delicate, graceful black lines of boundary that carve flowing contours and stark contrasted spaces, reading as whole and balanced compositions.
Every line represents a meditative breath, steadying the pen for a deliberate, fully committed permanent stroke; a first, only and final mark to the paper. These elegant lines of “formal vandalism” across the white bristol paper are often the viewers primary focus, innocently neglecting the inseparable relationship of the black lines to the white spaces created, hence the title. The oversight of the white spaces is akin to the attention paid to a rhythmic hand clap, dismissing the pause and openness between claps. The space in between the accents are integrally important when considering the experience as a whole.
Through a bare and expert approach of line manipulation and execution, White. Lines. Matter., visually captures the snapshot of when vast possibilities, focus and intention merge into substance.”
