Prolific Local Artist Starts Mural at M&T Bank’s Kensington Branch Celebrating Buffalo-Born Jazz Legend

M&T Bank has engaged Edreys Wajed, a Buffalo-based artist, educator and entrepreneur, to lead a mural project at its Kensington branch, 3037 Bailey Ave., in Buffalo. The mural is now underway and expected to be complete in early October.  The mural celebrates Grover Washington, Jr., a Buffalo-born saxophonist and jazz legend who was an innovator of jazz fusion styles, especially jazz-funk and soul-jazz. He is considered one of the founders of the smooth jazz style.  This mural project is M&T Bank’s latest investment in Buffalo’s East Side community. In recent years, the bank has invested about $2 million to renovate and upgrade its East Side branches to enhance customers’ in-person experience.  In his recent work, Wajed has blended music, lines, portraiture and activism. He is a finalist for Artist of the Year in the Art Service Initiative of Western New York’s 2020 Spark Awards.
