GRAMMY DAY 160: CLOUD 9

My cousin Mike contends that The Temptations are the greatest group to ever do it, as there will never be another group where each individual was sufficient, entertaining and talented as a Lead Singer. They put so-called singing groups of today to shame with dance moves that can’t be compared. Back when Berry Gordy certified Motown as a Hit-Making machine, the Temptations received their first Grammy in 1968 for Cloud Nine – Best Rhythm and Blues by a Duo or Group.

DAY 159 GRAMMY CHASE: GMA RELEASE

DAY 158 GRAMMY CHASE: THE ENEMY

As I’ve learned, there are various means of obtaining a gramophone. One of those ways is by specializing in Remixing, just ask DJ Benny Benassi. He’s a House Music producer with a variety of musical styles, one of which won him a Grammy Award for the remix of the classic Public Enemy song “Bring the Noise.”

Best Remixed Recording, Non Classical – Benny Benassi – 2007 (listen here)

DAY 157 GRAMMY CHASE: HAMMER PLEASE

Burning through Millions of dollars right before the public’s eye, selling millions of albums and yet no one could’ve guessed in a million years that he would supposedly go broke, disappear from the scene and be nothing more than a blip on the music history. I’m not sure what the M.C. in his name represented, but in my book it couldn’t have meant what I know it to mean, Mic Controller or Move the Crowd or Master of Ceremony. Oh well, he was entertaining while he was around and to his credit, no ones “touching” him on the dance tip, thats for sure. No matter, the purpose of this paragraph is to simply recognize my man success as a Grammy winner. Best Music Video, Long FormPlease Hammer Don’t Hurt Em – 1990. He also won 2 other Grammy’s for the Rick James sampled “You Can’t Touch This.”

I don’t know why I couldn’t remember this movie-short by MC Hammer, but maybe you baggy-pants fans will.

DAY 156 GRAMMY CHASE: THE COLOR IS MAROON

I truly love the sound of Maroon 5, after being drawn in by the infectious “She Will Be Loved,” I just wanted to hear and adore more of their musical offerings. The song “She Will be Loved,” was such an incredible hit-song, that I figured they must be noted for winning a Grammy, but to my amazement they weren’t nominated at ALL for that song. However, still feeling that they must’ve been recognized at some point, I found they were the recipients of the Best Pop Performance by a Duo or  Group with VocalMakes Me Wonder – 2007.

DAY 155 GRAMMY CHASE: GMA LAUNCH PARTY

DAY 154 GRAMMY CHASE: LOOSE ENDS, GRAMMY MISSED

Today, I spoke with both of my older cousins Mike and Anthony, Mike mentioning how dope he thought Loose Ends was and Anthony asking about my Marvin Gaye collection, both incredible people commenting on great bodies of work.. Well, I’ll get to Marvin later, but as of right now, I’m SOOOO FEELING the sounds of Loose Ends and all of the Roller Rink memories that my mom, Auntie Jean and Auntie Joyce gave us, as Loose Ends would keep us on the skate floor as Auntie Jean would keep requested their songs, time and time again. Oohhh the days of good, impressionable, memorable music. Funny thing is, they weren’t in the Grammy sights, however they opened the door for a group like Soul II Soul to take home a gramophone, as Loose Ends laid down and introduced a unique London/Soul/Tech sound and blueprint.

DAY 153 GRAMMY CHASE: CALL-LIN-DA-PO-LEASE

One of my favorite bands EVER! I’m a little raggedy in regards to possessing a full collect, but nevertheless, their music spoke volumes for generations and their older work remains a mark of excellence. The Police won Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1981 – “Don’t Stand So Close To Me.” Also, in the same year, they won Best Rock Instrumental Performance for “Behind My Camel.” I think they’re still seeing residuals from Diddy’s remake of “Every Breath You Take,” 1983 Grammy Award-Winning song for the Police. But like all good things, they come to an end, yet the music thankfully lives on.

DAY 152 GRAMMY CHASE: BOY OH BOY GEORGE

1983Best New Artist Culture Club. Yep!! Boy George TOO is a member of the Grammy-Winning circle, and uh, it goes not much further than that. Admittedly, this was my joint when I was a kid, and considering the height of MTV’s influence on the musical culture in the 80′s, I don’t think anyone had a choice in regards to disliking Boy George. One thing that came to my attention was the use of Blackface in this video. I’m not sure of what its suggesting whatsoever in the context of this video. (see below)
