DAY 50 GRAMMY CHASE: EVERY LITTLE STEP

Day 50, a renewed sense of everything around me. Thankful for my new pair of eyes. Grateful! Isn’t it interesting how we as humans may have disagreements with each other, friends, family or whatever, but the minute tragedy appears or seems to be looming, it’s like a ice cold shower of awakening? At THAT moment you notice your faults and start to playback your regrets. Not soon after, when things blow over or what was presumed as danger passes, we fall RIGHT back into our habits. How soon we forget. For too many years we’ve been conditioned to live and plan for the future, meanwhile we entertain the cliche’ that “no one is promised tomorrow.” So why then do we plan for something that isn’t certain. Why aren’t we conditioning ourselves to live in the present, for THIS very moment is all that we DO have. Your present predicts your future, so the more success we find and create in the present moments, we’ll enjoy the seeds of the positive actions, words and thoughts we planted. May your “Every little step” be ordered in Grace and Mercy!

Did you notice the similarity of this video to that of Beyonce’s “Single Ladies?”

DAY 49 GRAMMY CHASE: WHO’S GOT THE FUNK?

Day 49, I came across some pretty disturbing, unbelievable Grammy-related findings. How is it that after well over 30 years of involvement in the music industry and countless classic chart-topping hit songs, that George Clinton, The Parliament, Funkadelic, etc., has never been recognized by the Recording Academy? One of the most sampled groups (artists, G. Clinton) of all-time that gave us, “Atomic Dog,” “Flashlight,” “One Nation Under a Groove,” and countless others, mysteriously has never be awarded a Grammy!! It makes me re-think the importance of the Grammy’s. The fact that an act, artist or group has never been awarded a Gramophone doesn’t take away or lessen the quality of their musical contributions. Despite George Clinton’s music having contributed to the large success and platinum selling status of many other artists that have sampled his work;  as well as earned The Parliament a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; the fact that they have never won a Grammy is even more bizarre than the stage antics they’ve been known for and that’s saying alot.

DAY 48 GRAMMY CHASE: ZEN

DAY 47 GRAMMY CHASE: CRYING OVER GRAPES

Anita Baker: “Giving You the Best that I Got” – Best R&B song and Best R&B Vocal Performance, Female (2 Grammy’s in 1989)
The youtube video is lackluster, but the music is soul-touching!!

Day 47 began with early morning soccer practice (9am) at the SportsPlex in North Tonawanda. I printed directions from Mapquest and basically relied on directions on how to get lost, turning a 20 mile drive into to a 45 minute trip around the fringe of the city. NICE!! Two kids asking the all too familiar question, “When are we going to be there?” NIIICE!

Directions: 290w to NY-425 N/Twin Cities Memorial Hwy….Well, unfortunately I NEVER even saw such an exit or sign. If I’d just gone with my instincts I would have taken a much more certain route, as I later learned that the exit I should have been taking was Colvin. We made it to practice 30 minutes late and to my surprise the youngest child decides, “I’m not practicing today. I don’t feel like it.” Neither the coach or myself could convince him otherwise and by that time I was so frustrated after damn near driving the distance that it would take to reach Rochester, but never even left the city.

After practice we had a much shorter trip home and it was near lunch time. I made sandwiches and plated up some grapes for the boys as well. The older child began CRYING over having to eat grapes. I commented sarcastically on how fortunate he must be that he can turn down fruit or food in general, meanwhile children plagued by hunger would claw for grapes. That’s when it occurred to me, despite the challenges that come along with parenting, all that I can do is “Give it the Best that I Got.”

DAY 46 GRAMMY CHASE: MORNING

Day 46, nearly Day 47 by the time that I post this. Each day has presented its challenges resulting in very late postings. Nonetheless, I always find inspiration to continue to remain faithful and focused at being an inspiration to others developing a clearer vision of what I desire from life. Today I read an email from a good friend Donny, who is one of the many talented people that I have yet to work with collaboratively, but we’ve always kept each other in mind with mutual respect. I’m not sure if he knew it or not, but the video that he recommended as a reference for the work that he and I should plan towards was actually nominated for the Best Music Video Grammy this year, inspiring today’s post. “Her Morning Elegance” is a great song accompanied by a well-matched video. Congrats to Oren Lavie, although B.E.P. took home the trophy with “Boom Boom Pow.”….no further comments…

Approaching the launch of Good Morning Amy, I’m anticipating to pull off a video of similar nature, using still-photography and illustrations creating a fun, playful and colorful interactive environment, delivering a stunning and memorable short film video. There are many different ways to go about getting a Grammy nod and we’re trying them all. Have a Good Morning, each and every morning! pEace.

DAY 45 GRAMMY CHASE: BUST A MOVE

Day 45, half way to 90 days which will be nearly 1/4 of the way to the Awards Ceremony of 2011. I’ve been behind on my blog updates as I find other things that are much more important to do on the weekend, like soccer with the boys or Bust-a-Move Family Tournament Gameplay. We’ve all been kickin’ each others butt in Bust-a-Move, in what sometimes becomes very intense battles when you’re trying to NOT lose to a 5 and 8 year old.

This leads me to an artist who’s been somewhat forgotten about, but played a responsible role in driving Hip Hop further into the fiber of the Pop culture with his hit song “Bust a Move.” Check out Young MC rocking a tux in the 90′s that looks like he can fit right in with these hipsters of today that think they are doing something new. He won the Best Rap Performance Grammy in 1990 for “Bust A Move” and hasn’t really bust the same move since.

DAY 44 GRAMMY CHASE: GOAL!

Day 44. Without much to report on the end of Grammy related finds, I am happy to share a video of my oldest son playing one of his favorite sports. Over the years we’ve become involved with various soccer leagues and on the weekends we look forward to Soccer Saturday!!  Watching my son today was fulfilling for us all, as he’s always played in leagues with older children where he was the younger by 2 -3 years, which makes a big difference in the level of competition. It was very frustrating for him as well as for us to see him try so hard and exert so much effort game after game and not quite get the reward or the goal or sometimes the win. He felt like quitting many times and doubted himself as well. He’s always had the tools and the skills, but he didn’t always use them to his advantage until the “on” switch was flicked. His goal was to get the GOAL!. Be the best. A lesson I TOO must take to heart about my goals. Despite my own frustrations and obstacles, I mustn’t stop shooting to make a goal. The more grass stains the better.

DAY 43 GRAMMY CHASE: COMMUNITY

Day 43 was spent lecturing and doing rhyme and beat demonstrations at Waterfront Elementary School in Downtown Buffalo. One of the things I love to do most is to interact and inspire the youth. I had 3 incredible sessions with students ranging from 6 – 8 grade of various backgrounds and ethnicities. I was somewhat embarrassed in one incident as I often engage the students by asking them direct questions regarding their hobbies, interests etc. So I ask one young lady if she had a hobby or anything that she like to do or was good at. Without saying anything, she shyly looked at her friend beside her with a blushing smile, which I read as her being bashful about her sharing her interests. So I asked, “Why are you looking at her? Does she know something about YOU that YOU don’t?” The class replied in unison, “She doesn’t speak any English.”….hmmm…

Well, I easily recovered but I did wish that I was able to speak her language or that she was able to understand what I was saying. Overall, the visit was a great success and I positively affected many students in encouraging them to Dream and muster enough passion to actually see it through to manifestation.  It’s always the small things that make the most impacting and lasting impressions on me. God Bless!

DAY 42 GRAMMY CHASE: GOT ME?

Day 42. A little behind the clock today but still able to manage the morning duties considering things just got a little interesting with a surprise 9 am jury duty summons. How in the heck can the court just bust into your day, week or what have you and drastically put a halt into your pre-planned obligations? Today is definitely not the best day as I was actually loaded with things to do today. Downtown Buffalo has terrible parking, so I’d ideally prefer a 30 min window to browse for parking in order to make it to the courthouse early, however, there’s a regular routine of school drop-off that’s pending as well as a scheduled 830 am appointment for Max at the Vet, and thats just the tip of the iceberg. So, this entry will be very short as I need to head off and discuss alternative plans with the First Lady who always says, “Whatever we need to do, I GOT you!!” This inspires todays Grammy inspiration with the hit song that awarded the best and probably only Hip Hop band the Grammy in 1999 for Best Performance By A Duo Or Group for the song “You Got Me.”  I remember the moment when I learned about their nomination and it was such a great turn-around for this hardworking, talented crew from Philly. They continued delivering innovative videos and classic albums with more Grammy Nominations but haven’t been awarded another Grammy since.
This song apparently featured Philly native Jill Scott originally, but was later swapped with Erykah Badu as Jill Scott was a new artist and Badu had much more buzz and audience at the time, but if you EVER were able to hear Jill Scott sings the vocals for this, you’d hear the real essence of the song. It also featured another Philly breakout artist, later turned actress, Eve. By the way I LOOVE Jill Scotts smile and her music is Golden. Good Morning and Good Day to you!!

DAY 41 GRAMMY CHASE: PACKAGE

Day 41 of the Grammy Chase, I woke up to a light consistent snow and beautiful, crisp air. I shoveled early in the morning before either of the cars can make tracks on the driveway as I am admittedly OCD about keeping the driveway clean and down to the pavement. I’m feeling great for a number of reasons, one for which I can thank my oldest son for spending the day with me yesterday. All that I have to do is look around me to be grateful for my place in life. Some people don’t feel worth much or they feel worth-less, because they compare their lives and material gains and possessions to that of others, but personally, I’ve never been motivated, depressed or intimidated by other peoples lives. I’m a husband with the most incredible wife I could imagine. I’m a dad and father of two intelligent, athletic, artistic and healthy sons. I can’t count the number of talents I was blessed with. I’m healthy and despite having many emergency room visits for fractures, asthma, sutures, palpitations and so on, I’ve always been thankful and grateful that things weren’t worse. My mom, dad and sister are all well, happy, kind, caring, talented etc. I didn’t find it by looking far and wide or comparing myself to the standards of others, but by just “being.” Life’s total package is accessible to you!

On the topic of packages, the picture above highlights the WINNER of the Best Recording Package Grammy by DB&BE (David Byrne and Brian Eno). As I mentioned in previous posts, it’s incredible discovering the various publicly unknown categories and awards that are issued each year. So in wrapping up my CD package for my album, all things must go into consideration, not just the music. Check the video below for how sick this packaging really is.
