YOU’RE WRITE ABOUT THAT

Just to show you how incredible the mind is, check out the video above, displaying the handy-work by Swiss clockmaker Jacquet-Droz. This is the predecessor to any machine or computer automated device we know today. Built on the basics and principles of a clock.

Now go and create your own, with a couple screws and bolts from Lowes of Home Depot. Let me know when you make a replica of yourself to do your work at the job for you. Also, let me know the estimated time it took you to get fired after it screws everything up.

HOLY BLANK TAPES, BATMAN!!!!

My man, a TRUE old school baby, DJ Wisz already let me know he KNEW what time it was. I feel that there are generations that have missed out on what we experienced as teens. The teens today with ipods, mp3 players, zunes, macs, iTunes…WHATEVER…they will NEVER know the feeling of trying to restore their favorite cassette tapes with a pencil or a pen. Or setting the tape to the right spot so when you would hit record, there would be no blank-air on the tape, which was very crucial in catching your favorite song in its entirety. And you couldn’t just use ANY pencil, pen or marker…it had to be of a specific diameter to properly turn the wheels of the cassette. If you found the right one, man, how easy it was to just fast forward or rewind the whole tape while chatting, rapping, laughing or day dreaming in class.

…memories…excuse me as i retrieve Kleenex….

OH! But thanks to technology, I was pleased to learn that their is a USB Cassette device that can convert your old tapes into digital files, mp3 and waves. SCHWEEET!!!

BAND OF BROTHERS + BROTHER ALI

©SC Harwell

A recent performance in Buffalo as a part of “The Truth is Here” Brother Ali tour. Much respect to my man DJ Lo Pro “the sound provider” on the 1′s and 2′s. We’ll be puttin’ down again in May at the University of Buffalo, so stay on the look for the advertising/promotion for “Live in Allen Hall.”

Brother Ali gave me mad love and support, the ideal way that all artists should support one another. If only everything was ideal!!!

My other two brothers, Brotha Ivan and Dr. Brotha’ Jay. We just couldn’t get it right. Are you supposed to say “cheese” ON 3…like….1, 2, (cHeese)…..OR….1, 2, 3..(cHeese)…?

FRIENDS…

PHOTOGRAPHER

This morning as I was listening to the Tom Joyner Morning Show, I heard Tavis Smiley drop this gem, “You are capable of doing all things, but you can’t do everything.” We ARE capable of doing all things, but we CAN’T do everything, by OURSELVES that is. So with the help of some friends, we recently pulled off a pretty successful photo shoot at a very visible, yet untapped location right here in Buffalo. Here’s how it went down: Trev Thorne, (my friend) figured it was time for new photos. So through Maisha (Trev’s wife), Rich B. (maisha’s friend) was recommended as the photographer for the engagement. After discussions on the setting/locations, we kinda’ came up dry and I wasn’t that excited about shooting in the typical locations. So, Tom (my other friend) suggested a really cool site off the beaten path, but still in plain sight oddly enough.

Long story made short…Rich, Trev and I met at the secret location and right away, we were all incredibly impressed with the atmosphere and setting of the location that we didn’t need to go any other place. Rich has a great eye and command of the given space and his equipment. REAL dope!
Check out his work! Thanks Trev, Rich, Maisha and Tom!
peace

ps…here’s a throwback…dedicated to my friends!!! Peep the beginning!!!

BIG FISH, HUGE TANK

I just found out something really cool!
Berlin boasts the worlds largest cylindrical aquarium and it stands in the SAS Radisson Hotel.
82 feet high filled with 240,000 Gallons of water housing 2600 fish of 56 species.

When you see me on MTV Cribs, I’m gonna say, “Yeah, you aint ballin’ if you aint got of these in your house…! My chef cooks fresh fish from this joint every night SON!!!” LOL

There is a restaurant right beneath it which personally…maaaaan… I dont know if I could do it. That’s just too huge of a water structure above me, that every 2 minutes I’d be thinking there was a crack in the aquarium…”Yo! You feel that? Was that a drip?”..Lol

But seriously, once again…credit to the ARTIST whom created this beauty of a monster.

BE BOLD IN GOLD

I keep it really positive when I write and post my thoughts and this post is no different. Although, I’m trying to figure out what this is all about and who’s idea was it to take the alleged “Prince of Golden Showers” and actually dress him in all gold. If I didn’t know better, I would swear he casting for a part in the 2008 version of the WIZ. Which reminds me..shouts out to Mark at OtherWisz for posting the “Ease on the Down the Road” video on his blog.

Well, maybe he’s LITERALLY” painting himself a new image as being a “golden boy.” We all have somethings that we’d like to put behind us, but unfortunately, while to trying to move forward from his past, I think that he will wish he could put THIS behind him too.

ARTIST RULE THE WORLD

(Above: A collaborative drawing painting my friend Kobe Barber and I worked on together. He painted and added color to the pen and ink skeleton which is still visible.)

Below is a response to my post about Buffalo being ranked #1 among mid-sized cities for arts and culture, which I’m still trying to understand myself.

“I have found most Buffalo artists to be #1 in creativity, dedication, perseverance, and courage……
I love what i do so much that i’d do it for nothing…..and sometimes i have to do it for nothing….if buffalo is #1, it must be because we artists are #1…..i wonder when this city will come to believe, as we do, that ART is central to LIFE……I wonder when us #1 artist-folks will be financially rewarded for working so hard and for making Buffalo #1 for arts and culture among mid-size cities……”
– Karima Amin

I had to take this quote from one of the most talented and gifted “heros or SHE-ros” I know. Karima Amin is a wonderful person first and foremost, but also an activist, an encyclopedia, an actor, a singer, writer, storyteller….and the list goes on. Oh, and she can beat the heck out of a drum and rap at the same time. She has dedicated so much of herself and her talents to Buffalo and the surrounding areas for so long, that she has all the right to say what she wishes about the state of Buffalo.

I don’t have enough time to convey all my feelings about the importance of art, but the short version would go like this.
*Are you sitting in a chair right now?
*Are you clicking a mouse, whether wireless or wired?
*Are you reading this from an iPod, Blackberry or monitor?
*Are you resting your elbow on a desk staring at each letter I’ve typed on your monitor?
*Are you dressed right now?

From the clothes you have on, the sneakers, the undies, your technology gadgets, the desk you are sitting at, the chair you are sitting on, the car you drive….

You can thank us ARTISTS for making that possible, for everything starts on paper as a sketch/layout/drawing before manufacturing happens. GIVE PROPS TO AN ARTIST TODAY!!

Peace

THE DEFINITION

READ

OK! I didn’t know that there was actual definition for an EDREYS! Who in the world decided to define what an Edreys IS!??

So the next time somebody calls you an Edreys, take it as a compliment.

LIGHT heARTed

Some art I found while on the net, and can’t really tell you how I found it, but his/her website is on the bottom of the pics. Since I’ve been inspired to chat about art the past few days, I was definitely impressed with creativity of taking the Light Bright set to the next level. These are really sweet, especially for the Star War heads. Apparently there is a kit that is available, that enables even YOU to be able to do it too.

These would look good as license plate covers at night for all the drifters and need for speed, fast and furious fanatics.
